Cost: The Government has committed to paying two-thirds of the cost for the apprenticeship training.  Employer incentives are available (depending on organisation size and meeting eligibility criteria).From April 2017 eligible firms will be able to use their Apprenticeship Levy contributions towards the cost. Please see the Bury College website for further information on the costs for this particular apprenticeship.

Occupational Profile

This exciting programme has been developed by employers specifically for the industry. Individuals will learn to manage all non-clinical aspects within a specified practice/s to achieve excellent patient care, quality, cost and delivery performance in line with practice strategy, goals and values. The role of the Practice Manager is to lead the team by providing support and direction to enhance performance, skills and knowledge of all practice staff.

Leadership Skills

Lead (in non-clinical matters) and motivate the practice team effectively by:

- Understanding the role and responsibilities of a manager

- Communicating the organisation’s vision and strategy

- Clarifying & supporting company policies

- Setting clear goals and expectations

- Supporting individual personal and professional development

- Providing mentoring & coaching for individual team members

- Being able to seek feedback on workplace performance

- Leading by example

- Strategic thinking at a local/practice level

Management skills

Organise efficient operational practice systems by:

- setting SMART objectives

- planning and delegating work

- allocating resources efficiently to meet deliverables and deadlines

- monitoring, evaluating and improving individual and team processes

- developing advanced IT Skills to meet requirements in role

Communication Skills

Communicate effectively with internal/ external stakeholders (senior management, patients, team, dental reps,

colleagues, third parties).

Delivery and Assessment

Six days’ full attendance over the first six months is required. This will involve a bespoke programme designed specifically for dental practice managers. Tutor support and online resources will also be available.

Portfolio of workplace evidence - E-portfolios and on-line resources are available to support you in compiling this. A dedicated Bury College assessor will visit at least once a month in order to offer additional support and guidance.  End point assessment synoptic project – A dedicated Bury College assessor will provide your apprentice with support and guidance to help them to prepare. End point assessment - independent interview/viva. A dedicated Bury College assessor will provide your apprentice with support and guidance in preparing for this. They will also arrange the interview on their behalf. Development of job role competencies and professional skills and behaviours - This will be delivered exclusively by Bury College. There will be a dedicated, qualified assessor to support teaching and learning as your apprentice develops technical knowledge and competence in their work-based activities.
