The market is competitive and every business sells to increase profitability with different approaches in a wide range of sectors. This course enables the employee to understand and apply the importance of good communication to persuade their consumers and to advise them of the value of the product, features and benefits, the understanding and conduct of business and sales environment and the legal requirements.

The optional units provide flexibility to specialise in sales for a role or industry and to align with business needs and apprentice aspirations. The apprentice will learn about sales techniques and the application of buying, the importance of perceived value and benefits. The course can also teach the processes and recording of sales.

Structure of apprenticeship

This apprenticeship is equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade A-C.

 

Mandatory units:

  • Time planning in sales
  • Complying with legal, regulatory and ethical requirements in a sales or marketing role
  • Deliver reliable customer service

 

Optional units:

  • Buyer behaviour
  • Understanding how to operate in a sales environment
  • Understanding the techniques and processes for effective selling
  • Understanding the legal, regulatory and ethical requirements in the sales or marketing environment
  • Understanding business awareness in sales
  • Principles of presentations and demonstrations in sales
  • Principles of selling at trade fairs and exhibitions
  • Selling face to face
  • Selling by telephone outbound
  • Inputting and accessing sales or marketing data in information systems
  • Selling at exhibitions

 

Functional skills

Functional skills are practical skills in English and Mathematics that will help individuals to operate confidently, effectively and independently in the workplace. These qualifications are a mandatory part of the apprenticeship programme that must be passed to allow successful completion unless the GCSE grades have been previously achieved. Employers have highlighted these abilities as an essential skill and many see them as a minimal requirement when applying for jobs.

Assessment

Your employee will develop technical knowledge and will show competence through work activities. Assessments involves observation of the duties carried out and a range of other methods; including witness statements, professional discussions and reflective accounts, written reports and computer based assignments in the work place. Candidates will work with their assessor to gain a work based qualification and will work with an electronic portfolio that enables them to demonstrate their skills practically.
