We are a friendly Group Practice , organised and forward thinking GP Training Practice with a great team spirit. We have a practice list of 12,000 patients. Our team consists of 7 doctors, plus GP trainees, 4 members of the nursing team, a practice pharmacist and 12 members of the administration team. We are looking for an Apprentice Receptionist/ Administrative Assistant to join our current team. As part of your training, you will gain experience in all departments, learning skills in Reception, Administration and Secretarial. This position will provide an opportunity for you to gain knowledge of how a GP surgery works as well as gaining experience of working in a busy NHS environment. A uniform will be provided.
Role and Responsibilities
You will perform a range of duties in a busy GP surgery ‘back office’; filing, photocopying, administering email appointments, taking prescription requests, dealing with and copying notes from solicitors’ letters, administering insurance report details, scanning incoming correspondence and keeping systems up to date. Initially the role will be predominantly general clerical but as you gain more experience you will have the opportunity to work on the front desk, meeting and greeting patients, making appointments, dealing with prescription requests etc. and also undertake training on the telephones to deal with patients and other callers. You will be supported throughout your training by experienced staff and assessors from Bury College to achieve your NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration. You will also be on a week’s work trial (fully paid).
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Good standard of education. Preferably educated to ‘A’ level standard but minimum of A-C grades in GCSE English and Math’s or equivalent
Previous apprentices have been offered permanent posts at the end of their training and have gone on to progress in roles such as receptionist, referrals secretary/administrator and one has moved into a health care support worker role (and is currently undertaking further training to become an Assistant Practitioner).
